It’s Black History Month! Black People in European History #5

It's Black History Month! Every day I will post something that shows the deep and rich history of Black people in Europe, so no one ever again questions why Black actors should be cast in all the films, plays, and shows about European history or based on fictionalized European history like Lord of the Rings and The Witcher.

February 5: Dido Elizabeth Belle. Born in 1761 in Jamaica to a British naval officer, Sir John Lindsay, and an enslaved African woman called Maria. Her parents moved to Pensacola, Florida when Belle was three, where at some point Maria was freed and Lindsay purchased her a house. Lindsay brought Belle to England to stay with relatives at the age of 4, placing her with his great-uncle William Murray, 1st Earl of Mansfield, where she was raised as part of the British aristocracy alongside Lady Elizabeth Murray, another of Lord Mansfield’s great nieces, who was of a similar age. The famous painting of both young women is by David Martin. Cast Black actors!
