It’s Black History Month! Black People in European History #3
It’s Black History Month! Every day I will post something that shows the deep and rich history of Black people in Europe, so no one ever again questions why Black actors should be cast in all the films, plays, and shows about European history or based on fictionalized European history like Lord of the Rings and The Witcher.
February 3: This handsome courtier from the court of Margaret of Austria or her nephew, Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, sat for this portrait by Jan Mostaert around 1525. His name is lost to time (the title "Portrait of a Moor" came later), but his jeweled belt, fine goatskin gloves, and velvet clothing clearly demonstrate his nobility. He wears a pin on his hat of the Virgin Mary, which was a souvenir of a pilgrimage to Halle, popular with the court at the time. Cast Black Actors!
